Those Who Twist Their Nature
Richter Bronn stood at the window of his office on the 107th floor. His bulk was barely concealed by a luxury designer suit, cut crisp and clean. He glared through the glass pane at the river of light in the sky. He frowned, rubbing his clean-shaven chin.
“So they’ve done it,” he said, his deep voice echoing through the lavishly furnished room.
“Done what, Boss?” one of his lackeys questioned. Puzzled, he followed Richter’s eyes with his own through the window. He saw nothing.
“None of your concern,” Richter said, his frown twisting into anger as he towered over the lackey.
The humans had been sheep since the dawn of time.
They were easy pickings for a clever Cryptid to lead. They were self-destructive, arrogant fools who were also placid and stupid. Simple to control.
But the light in the sky proved the humans had taken the first steps to break free. Somehow, they’d found the way to transcend their egos and connect in a decentralized manner, free from all constraints.
This development threw a wrench in the works of Richter’s carefully crafted plan.
The Humans were too close to discovering the Secret.
Richter’s massive, hairy hands tightened into fists. He shoved aside his lackey and stomped towards his desk. He sat down in his giant leather armchair. He leaned forward. His huge body cast a grim shadow over the spread of reports scattered over the Elder Oak table.
“Accelerate our plans,” Richter said. “We have a Light to put out.”
