El Calafate was the second stop on our “Strange Man” buddy trip around Patagonia. It is a small town located in Argentina, near the southern border with Chile. It is situated on the south shore of Lake Argentino and serves as the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, just a few miles away. The town has a population of 22,000 people and is known for its hospitality industry, which caters to the many tourists who visit the nearby glaciers and other natural attractions.

El Calafate is also a great place to experience the culture of the Patagonia region. The town is home to several museums, art galleries, as well as many festivals and events.
The town has a wide range of accommodations, including hotels, hostels, campsites, and plenty of upscale restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops. We stayed at the five-star Xelena, an excellent hotel with a great lake view just outside town.
