It was 90 degrees when I walked out of the passages upstairs in the Coliseum for the first time and viewed the arena. It was a sight so impressive, filled with so much history; I got goosebumps. So, before we explore the structure as it is today, let’s feel what it was like to step into the arena for the first time in the glory days of Rome.

Standing at the entrance of the massive Flavian Amphitheatre, or Colossus as some call it. I felt a surge of anticipation and anxiety coursing through my veins. The grandeur of the arena loomed before me, its towering walls casting shadows over the labyrinth of corridors and chambers beneath. The air was thick with the scent of anticipation, a heady mix of sweat, leather, and the metallic tang of weapons.

The roar of the crowd echoed through the stone archways, reaching a crescendo that sent shivers down my spine. I, Lucius Veridian, a humble gladiator, had dreamt of this moment for as long as I could remember. The grand spectacle that lay ahead was both a promise of glory and a testament to the brutal nature of the arena.

As I stepped into the amphitheater, I commanded attention. My imposing height and muscular frame were a testament to years of rigorous training in the ludus. My skin bore the scars of countless battles, each mark telling a story of survival in the brutal arena…
