Stavanger is a city located on the southwestern coast of Norway that I visited last year. It is the fourth-largest city in the country and is known for its picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and thriving oil industry.

History:

Stavanger has a long history that dates back to the Viking Age. It was established as a market town in the 12th century and became an important center for trade and commerce. The city’s historic core still features well-preserved wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Oil Industry:

Stavanger is often referred to as the “Oil Capital of Norway” due to its significant role in the country’s oil industry. In the late 1960s, large oil reserves were discovered in the North Sea, leading to a boom in offshore oil exploration and production. Many international oil companies have their Norwegian headquarters in Stavanger, contributing to its economic growth and prosperity.
