Thessaloniki Has Plenty to Offer Beyond its Urban Facade

At first glance and even second glance, this city looked like a boring modern city with cheap tower blocks, abundant graffiti, and little to recommend it. But, after two days of pounding the streets with over 50,000 steps on my Fitbit, I have a different opinion. Many of the attractions were ill-kept, no doubt due to the lack of funds, but there is plenty to recommend a stay for at least an active day and night.

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second-largest city after Athens and is steeped in history, culture, and culinary delights on the Aegean Sea’s shores. From its ancient monuments to its vibrant neighborhoods and bustling markets, Thessaloniki beckons travelers to explore its rich tapestry of experiences, immersing ourselves in this captivating Greek city’s sights, sounds, and flavors.

Stroll along the Waterfront

Thessaloniki’s promenade offers a scenic escape along the shores of the Thermaic Gulf. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks, cycling, or simply relaxing on benches while viewing the sea and the cityscape.
