Why do we need to get ready
I’m a political geek but even I struggle with the idea of getting read for a female President of the United States.
It’s not that I particularly care about whether the next Oval Office occupant pees standing up, I really don’t. Part of me has to wonder, what are we getting ready for? Do people think it’s going to particularly matter at all?
Throughout my time in politics I’ve noticed certain questions don’t get asked on a universal basis. When my mother ran for the state house she was asked if her spouse had given his permission to run for office. The reporter had no problem admitting they had not asked it of her male opponent.
In the words of the reporter “How would that matter?”. He seemed to struggle with the idea of that somehow being relevant.
When Hillary declared herself as a candidate there were people attacking her for being a grandmother and running. (Sure Trump’s her age and a Grandfather, but why quibble with details, right?)
People with an issue of a woman POTUS will never admit it having to do with her gender. The aren’t racste they are following the word of God. That apparently makes whatever stupid thing for saying.
I’be been in politics for some time. I’m beginning to feel the real question is more along the lines of “Why do we care?”
If a company asked their employees “What do you think of a woman as CEO?”. Sure they would be sued to hell and back again. I’ve seen the political fights and as far as I have been able to tell the reference to it as a dick measuring contest is made in all good fun.
