COVID-19 has impacted everyone in the world one way or another. We have seen hundreds of thousands die from this horrible virus. We have changed our entire way of life to work and live. We have adapted to the challenges.

My mom, Mary Jo McNulty, is among those who have had to adapt.

She has been working at Lehigh University for 38 years, and while most people are working from home, she has been going in every day, taking the proper precautions to keep everyone around her safe.

She first started working at Lehigh when she was 16 years old and was still in high school. She started in admissions and worked her way up into human resources where she now serves as the administrative director.

When she goes into work, she gets to see how empty Lehigh is now, which is unusual during beautiful summer days.

Despite the world being on a halt, her work has not stopped. In fact, she has been working more than she usually does trying to keep up with everything.

“I’ve been working with one of the committees to bring research and faculty back who have work to do in their lab,” McNulty said. “We’ve been doing some COVID-19 safety training, and once they pass that, we get their access card reactivated.”

What’s incredible about her is that she has been so positive throughout this whole situation, and I think that’s an important lesson to take away. Life is all about reactions, and she’s grateful that our family has been safe and healthy throughout these last couple of months.

“For me, it’s been my family that has come to rely on each other more,” McNulty said. “They are a lot closer than they used to be. Work wise, we’ve been able to see what people are able to accomplish remotely.”

The front of Lehigh admissions is empty on a nice summer day.
Right outside of where my mom started. 38 years later and she’s still here.
Now my mom works at Human Resources, where she’s an Administrative Director.
