Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance and we remember all the lives lost to trans-phobia. Unfortunately, the trans community is still facing violence, discrimination, and even death worldwide. Today it’s not only about commemorating those we have lost but also to remind everyone that the fight is far from over and that we need to stand together in order to achieve an equal society.

Transgender Day of Remembrance at the Leicester LGBT Centre

This morning we’ve attended the DMU Policy for trans, gender fluid and non-binary staff and students launch event. We are very happy to see that one of our closest partners is committed to achieving equality for the trans community at the University.

This evening the Genderversity group is organising a Vigil where participants will light a candle and read out the names of those who aren’t with us anymore. The event will start at 7pm at the Leicester LGBT Centre, 15 Wellington Street, LE1 6HH. Everyone is welcome to attend. The young trans people of the T Party will also be holding a private event to reflect on today’s day.

Our plans for the Transgender Community at the Centre

After the incredible success of our Young Transgender Centre of Excellence, who has supported over 50 young transgender people since it was first launched, we are working on an Adult Trans project that will be launched at the beginning of next year. This project will be build upon the needs of the trans community, who had their say on an event we held last Saturday at the Centre.
