The Instant Food Era

Delivery. Ready-Made Meals. Instant Food. I’d bet you a large sum of money that you’ve had 1+ of these within the past week. I myself had McDonald’s only a few days ago. Once upon a time, these words would be reversed; we’d only have delivery once in a while.

Then there’s eating in restaurants, buffets etc… Whatever it is, it seems that nowadays, we’d trade food for the now, rather than the process of making everything yourself and waiting. Even if you said you were gonna have pasta and chips at home, you probably meant you’d use pasta that just needs to boil or frozen chips.. No cutting, chopping, waiting.

Chips and baked beans at home? No problem, just take out the chips from the freezer and fry them. Pour the beans from the tin, maybe heat it a little. Done shortly No chopping up potatoes and making chips from scratch. Fancy a pizza? No problem; just type up the local Dominos’ site or take out that frozen pizza and pop it into the oven.

And really, no-one can be blamed for this mindset. I mean, who wants to wait around for the yeast to activate and the bread to rise for a who hour, when you could just pop to your local Sainsbury’s and have it all ready to eat within 15 minutes?

Who’d want to make stir-fry from scratch when you could just phone up your local Chinese restaurant?

This is indeed the norm now, so much so that taking the time to make food from scratch is the one-off rather than ordering being one-off — I mean you can see this all the way back in the 90s with Friends.

Whichever meal type you prefer, comment below with your thoughts of the ‘instant food era’ and thanks very much for reading this post! :)
