How to stay safe in crypto!
In recent years, the online crypto communities have grown enormously, leading many new people to flock to crypto and start investing in their futures. Unfortunately, many of these new users can easily become targets of bad actors in the space if they fail to follow some simple steps to ensure security.
We’ll start by covering the most common scams in crypto…
Common scams to look out for:
The first step to staying safe in the crypto world is to be aware of the most common crypto scams.
Fake crypto giveaways, tokens, websites, trading bot scams, and phishing emails are some of the most common types of scams. In order to stay safe, you should be on the lookout for these types of posts and never send money to an address provided by a giveaway.
🎁Fake giveaways & Airdrops:
One of the most common crypto scams are fake giveaways. These usually involve making enticing social media posts where users are invited to send their crypto to a specific address in order to receive more back in return or connect a wallet to a malicious site that will drain your assets. Often these giveaways will use the likeness of large celebrities to boost the legitimacy of the scam. These types of scams often incorporate the use of fake Twitter or Telegram accounts to further try and prove legitimacy.
✅ How to avoid?
To stay away from fake / malicious links you should always verify the source. Most projects will provide a verifiable announcement channel. The general rule to staying safe within projects is to avoid any link that hasn’t been posted by the official team.
⚠️ At the moment there are fake LEND giveaways, to avoid these make sure you only follow the events in the official announcement channel: https://t.me/lendfinance_ann ✅
💻 Fake Websites:
Another common way to scam new crypto users is through fake websites. These often mimic the look and feel of authentic projects and sites but behind the scenes will just take your money. These can come in all forms of fake services such as, websites, DAPPS and even token sales! Scammers will make the effort to make the sites look identical to the originals so it is important to verify links!
✅ How to avoid?
The best way to check legitimate project links should be using official announcement channels. Although this can be cross referenced with links available on official token pages on CoinMarketCap.com as this is a fairly reliable and trusted source.

❌Fake Admins & DMs:
Imposters are rife within the crypto space. This type of scam involves sending messages to new users in an attempt to phish details in order to steal all of your crypto assets. This scam can occur on any online platform but is most commonly experienced on Telegram. The initial message may look like its from a friend, admin in a group or even just adding you into a fake group designed to mimic the original. In each case the person that appears to send you a message will look identical to an official account.
Scammers that use this method of operation usually try to encourage you to share private details such as a private key or seed phrase. In some cases they can just encourage you to visit/connect to a malicious site.
✅ How to avoid?
The best way to avoid this type of scam is to simply delete and ignore any unsolicited DM. By ignoring it and deleting you won’t be tricked into clicking any malicious links and giving away your coins!
⚠️ This simple rule will keep you safe: Real admins NEVER DM you first. Anybody that does is likely a scammer. To stay safe in the LEND community join our global chat and ask in there as our helpful mods will always assist: https://t.me/lendfinance ✅
🔑Seed phrases + Private Keys:
A private key is similar to a password; it consists of a string of hexadecimal characters that can be used to access and control your crypto assets. A seed phrase (often called a recovery phrase) on the other hand, is a set of words generated by a crypto wallet that provides access to all of your available assets on that wallet. As long as you have a seed phrase, you will still have access to your crypto assets even if you delete or lose your wallet.
Typically, the private key is just access to a singular address (one account), whereas a seed phrase is the access to the entire wallet which can and often contains multiple addresses.
If your private key was compromised you could lose one wallet, however a seedphrase could lose all wallets associated with an account.
✅ How to keep these safe?
The most important step to staying safe in the crypto world is to never make a digital copy of your personal crypto details. This includes taking screenshots of your passwords, seed words, or backup codes. These digital copies can be easily accessed by malicious actors and should be avoided at all costs.
The next step to staying safe in the crypto world is to adopt strong security habits. This includes using strong passwords and two-factor authentication, regularly changing passwords, and avoiding public WiFi networks. Additionally, you should be sure to store your passwords, seed words, and backup codes in a secure and offline environment.
The final step to staying safe in the crypto world is to use a reliable wallet. Reliable wallets should be verified and regulated, and should provide a backup and recovery option. Additionally, you should always double check addresses when sending crypto, and never send money to an address that you do not recognize.
➕Extra security practices:
- Use a different password for every crypto platform you use
- Do your own research before connecting to any platform
- Ensure you software up-to-date routinely
- Conduct smaller transactions to test addresses before sending
- Manage multiple wallets
- Change all passwords regularly
- Check the URL and connect your wallet to official sources only.
- Only approve smart contracts and connecting your wallet if you are sure the site is trustworthy.
Conclusion:
By this point in the article you should be sure to keep up to date with the latest security news and trends. Staying informed can help you to identify potential scams and protect your crypto assets.
By following these simple steps, you can help to protect your crypto from cyberattacks and scams and ensure a safe and secure experience.
