Last week on AI is a weekly recap of the most significant Artificial Intelligence news from past week, curated by our team of specialists!

🍿 Prepare your popcorn! This show is going to be worth seeing. Elon Musk is suing OpenAI, alleging they strayed from their original goal of developing safe AI for humanity and are now prioritizing profits with Microsoft. He claims they breached their agreements by keeping technology secret and wants them to return to their original mission.

Each step towards the future is a step closer to Skynet. Figure, a humanoid robot maker, secured $675 million partnership with OpenAI to enhance their robots’ AI and natural language processing. Their robots are known for being genuinely autonomous.

Remember when you saw a video and only doubted those blurry sightings of UFO and Yeti? Alibaba Group’s EMO system creates lifelike talking and singing videos from photos and audio. It uses a new AI method, skipping detailed 3D models and directly generating video frames while incorporating reference footage for longer, realistic results.

Create your games with just a prompt. Google DeepMind’s Genie creates playable video games from text or image prompts, learning gameplay from videos without specific training. Though limited to slow, research-only use, it holds promise for interactive AI-generated worlds.

NVIDIA stocks are through the roof, and for a reason: They are in everything AI-related. Their annual GTC conference is back, offering in-person and virtual attendance options.

VR and AR seemed like a gimmick, but Apple’s vision is a huge step, and Meta wants to stay in the race. Meta AI’s V-JEPA model is a step towards understanding machines’ physical world. It learns from unlabeled videos, predicts missing parts, and excels at understanding object interactions.
