Upcoming Event: LiDAR Days
LiDAR Days, a joint collaboration event we organize with BGS Bilgi (TerraSolid distributor) and Robonik Mekatronik (drone manufacturer) which will take place in Istanbul Technical University and Istanbul University Research Forest is approaching.
LiDAR Days event will commence on April 25th, and it will resume until April 27th. Event consists of three seperate objectives.
On the first day of event, a multicopter UAV will fly over the Istanbul University Research Forest and collect georeferenced LiDAR point cloud data using YellowScan Surveyor. After the collection, data will be processed using TerraSolid software suite and high-level classification workshop will occur.
Istanbul University Research Forest, where the flight will take place, not only consists of rich forestry information but also very rich power line information, since some of the main power lines crossing from Istanbul European side to Istanbul Anatolian side positioned inside of the forest area.
YellowScan Surveyor is a GPS/INS + LiDAR integrated system, which is a part of our distributed product portfolio. This system will be mounted under TurkUAV V3 Oktokopter, which is a multicopter UAV designed and manufactured by Robonik Mekatronik, and will fly over the forestry and powerline corridor areas to collect LiDAR point cloud data. While flight takes place, participants at the event will be able to monitor data collection in real time, thanks to YellowScan’s latest product, LiveStation. After the completion of the mission, UAV will be landed and, participants at the event will witness how straightforward it is to generate georeferenced point cloud in .LAS format with YellowScan Surveyor, in field, in matter of minutes after the mission.
After the collection of data, we will travel back to the meeting room reserved for us in Istanbul Technical University (where our office is located) and collected data will be processed and translated into meaningful information with using TerraSolid software suite by the TerraSolid software’s architect himself.
Detailed program of the first day is given as follows:
April 25th, 2017, Tuesday
09:00 —Welcoming at Istanbul Technical University and brief introduction of the day
10:00 — Travelling to the Istanbul University Research Forest
11:00 — Demo flight with YellowScan Surveyor
12:00 — Travelling back to Istanbul Technical University
13:00 — Lunch
14:00 — LiDAR Point Cloud processing using TerraSolid software suite
15:30 — Coffee Break
16:00 — LiDAR Point Cloud processing using TerraSolid software suite (cont.)
17:30 — Conclusion
On the second day of the event, demo data packages which consists of road, railroad, forestry and power line information will be processed in a workshop fashion, using TerraSolid LiDAR point cloud software suite.
Workshop scope is given as follows:
- During the data processing, geometric components (curbs, clotoids, alignments, superelevation) inside of the road and railroad point clouds will be calculated horizontally and vertically and will be plotted as graphs. Also these components parameters will be assessed. Using the elevation differences in a road, water flow direction will be analyzed. Also, lenghty deformations, tire scratches and potholes will be able to identified.
- In a point cloud, a railroad and if exists power lines belonging to that railroad will be automatically drawn.
- In a point cloud, where forestry information exists, trees will be able to automatically classified and be represented with different symbols.
- In a point cloud, where power line information exists, seperate power lines will be automatically drawn. Also, objects that may threaten the power line surrounding can be automatically classified and identified.
Detailed program of the second day is given as follows:
April 26th, 2017, Wednesday
09:30 — Sample Forestry Data Processing
10:30 —Coffee Break
11:00 — Sample Forestry Data Processing (cont.)
12:00 —Lunch
13:00 — Sample Road & Railroad Data Processing
14:30 — Coffee Break
15:00 — Sample Road & Railroad Data Processing (cont.)
16:30 — Discussion
17:00 — Conclusion
On the third and last day of the event, Classification using Groups method will be the main topic. This novel approach provides better automatic classification of above ground features and also speeds up manual classification procedures.
Detailed program of the third day is given as follows:
April, 27th, 2017, Thursday
09:30 — Classification using Groups Workshop
10:30 — Coffee Break
11:00 — Classification using Groups Workshop (cont.)
12:00 — Lunch
13:00 — Classification using Groups Workshop (cont.)
14:30 — Coffee Break
15:00 — Classification using Groups Workshop (cont.)
16:30 — Discussion
17:00 — Conclusion
