Lerer Hippeau was founded in 2010 to discover and back customer-focused founders building category-leading, technology-driven companies across all sectors. Our portfolio of more than 300 investments includes consumer, enterprise, and media companies such as Casper, Warby Parker, Namely, Axios, and Guideline.
About the jobs
This summer, we’re looking for two Summer Associates to join our investment team in New York. At Lerer Hippeau we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and flat organization. Being a Summer Associate is an invaluable opportunity to gain exposure to key areas of venture capital including sourcing, investment analysis, partner meetings, deal execution, and portfolio support. All candidates should have a strong interest in learning about the venture capital industry and a passion for startup technology companies.
Portfolio & Strategy Operations Associate
The portfolio summer associate will lead special projects for the partnership and support the existing portfolio.
This summer you will:
- Assist with internal strategy and operations for the investment team
- Develop benchmarking processes and initiatives that support LH portfolio operations
- Work on ad hoc portfolio company projects
- Create and manage models/dashboards/frameworks that deliver key insights on industry developments and trends
- Complete research project on fundraising and exit environment
- Write one (or more) Medium posts sharing high-level insights from work and/or research completed over the course of the internship
About you:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (MBA preferred)
- At least 2 years of full-time, post-college work experience in technology, consulting or M&A
- Experience in financial modeling and data analytics tools
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills and expertise in Excel
- Demonstrated interest in startups and technology
- Strong presentation skills and proficiency in PowerPoint
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Team player willing to help with whatever is needed
Research Summer Associate
The research summer associate will assist in sector research and help identify new investment opportunities.
This summer you will:
- Complete one or more sector specific deep dives and help map out interesting investment opportunities
- Assist investment team with market and competitive landscape research
- Attend local networking events to expand research with local community
- Write one (or more) Medium posts sharing high-level insights from work and/or research completed over the course of the internship
About you:
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (MBA preferred)
- At least 2 years of full-time, post college work experience — startup operating experience is a plus
- Demonstrated interest in startups and technology
- Has baseline knowledge of the NY tech ecosystem and familiarity with venture
- Domain experience or interest in the emerging tech, healthcare, marketplaces, fintech, or AI/ML is a plus
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Team player willing to help with whatever is needed
