Did Trump actually threaten to jail Hillary Clinton if he wins?

I’ll let you in on a little secret. That isn’t what he said. Instead he said,

“If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your (missing email) situation,” Trump said, “because there has never been so many lies, so much deception.”

Hillary responded,

“It’s just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.”

In response to that Trump quipped,

“Because you’d be in jail.”

Trump never threatened to jail Hillary. He simply suggested that he’d have the highest law enforcement official in the United States appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton for criminal activity related to her email situation. Many Americans (including Trump) believe Hillary violated the law and then lied about it — people who break the law need to be punished — the punishment for this crime will be jail. Donald Trump suggested that if he was in charge of the law (he isn’t and won’t be) she’d be in jail.

Trump threatened to have a special prosecutor investigate her and hopefully prosecute her for her crimes — he did not suggest he was planning on becoming a dictator so he could imprison her personally. At the end of the day half of America believes Hillary should be in jail and unless Donald Trump is elected president it is very unlikely that will ever happen.
