Quiz: Which country has the larger manufacturing sector? China or the U.S.?

Based on the most recent data (2013) you might be surprised to learn that the United States manufacturing sector is larger than China’s. In 2013 the gross output of the U.S. manufacturing segment was $5.9 trillion compared to $4 trillion for China (if you adjust for purchasing power their output shrinks to $2.9 trillion). As a percentage of our economy manufacturing is bigger than any other segment — 35.4%. Of course in China it is larger representing 46% of their economy.
