The Left’s Frustration with Trump’s Reasonable and Measured Approach to Governance. . .

Last night Donald Trump sat down with 74-year-old Lesley Stahl from 60 Minutes for an in-depth interview. It is worth watching. The most interesting thing I noticed was how frustrated Lesley Stahl was that Donald Trump’s plans seemed entirely reasonable. Democrats, and their willing accomplices in the media, spent a year maligning Trump for his plans to build a wall, deport illegals, and repeal Obamacare. They painted his plans in the worst possible way — imagining the worst possible way to implement them and suggesting that was what Trump intended. The truth? Donald Trump is a dealmaker — his first “offer” is never his best. Donald Trump loves America and wants to make it work.

Last night Lesley Stahl asked Trump if he was going to build the wall. Trump said he was going to. Then she thought she had him by explaining that some Republicans want part of the border to be comprised of a fence instead of a wall — how would he deal with that she asked. In a very reasonable manner Trump said that some of the border would be a wall and other parts would be a fence — reiterating that he was very experienced at construction and that he would get it done. She was apoplectic — he PROMISED a wall and now he was willing to have a hybrid wall and fence.

Next she asked Trump what would happen to the millions of Americans who depend on Obamacare. Once again in a very reasonable manner Trump explained his plan was to replace the system with a better one — perhaps retaining the good parts of Obamacare like coverage for preexisting conditions and dependent coverage. Lesley Stahl was apoplectic for a second time — he PROMISED to repeal Obamacare leaving millions of Americans without coverage — resulting in death for many Americans. Trump laughed off the suggestion explaining that there would be no lapse in coverage — he wouldn’t get rid of Obamacare until the new plan was in place. She was frustrated with his answer — it seemed too reasonable and rational. She wanted the wildman back — the racist-archetype the Democrats attempted to create — the fascist madman would enslave African-Americans, and kill Latinos.

Next she got to the subject of immigration. Trump had promised to deport millions of illegals — she asked if that was still his intention. Once again in a reasonable manner Trump explained that his first objective was to get the criminals out of the country (or at least incarcerate them). There are between 2–3M illegal immigrants in the United States who are felons — they all need to leave. Lesley Stahl asked about the rest of the people who are here illegally. Trump, very reasonably, said that after the criminals had been dealt with a plan would have to be devised to deal with those who are here illegally. She pressed him for the answer, but he was very forthright that he didn’t have the answer. Lesley Stahl wanted him to outline a plan of concentration camps near each population center — the American holocaust she warned voters about just weeks earlier.

At the end of the day, Donald Trump is a rational and reasonable man who loves his country. He’s going to make mistakes. He’s going to screw up. But hopefully, if he can stick to his values and vision, he’ll leave the country a little better than he found it.
