Trump Causes CNN to Lose Their Shit

Earlier this week CNN attempted to bring the birther issue to life by asking Trump his opinion on the location of Obama’s birth. Yesterday when asked once again where he thought Obama was born Trump said that his campaign would issue a statement. Later than evening the campaign issued a statement indicating that in Trump’s personal opinion Obama was born in the United States. This morning CNN spent the first four hours of programming covering the “issue”. The headline was that Trump will not “personally” say that Obama was born in the United States. CNN cut to broadcasts from Hillary Clinton discussing the issue and then from President Obama — it was a full court press. Finally, Trump’s campaign reported that he would be holding a press conference to discuss the issue later in morning.

Held in Trump’s newest hotel in Washington DC the press event began with Donald Trump welcoming a large group of veterans that included Congressional Medal of Honor winners and Gold Star Moms. Trump spent the first few minutes promoting the hotel — including talking about the upcoming grand opening and the various amenities. It was a commercial for the hotel — plain and simple. Then Trump turned the microphone over to the veterans who told personal accounts of Trump’s support of the military over the years. One after another the military heroes told their stories. The event seemed to go on forever — it was excruciating, but CNN wouldn’t cut away. They were committed. Finally, they just couldn’t take it anymore. They broke in and began castigating the campaign for misleading them. They said that Trump’s team lied to them about the event. They wanted to hear about Obama and his place of birth — not about veterans. Jake Tapper was red in the face — angrier than I’ve ever seen him.

Finally Trump returned to the microphone and CNN cut back to the event. Trump finally addressed the matter by simply suggesting that Hillary Clinton first raised the issue of where Obama was born and that he settled the issue — presumably by convincing the President to release a copy of his birth certificate. Then in very clear words he said the words that CNN had demanded he say personally, “President Obama was born in the United States.” Then he concluded the event saying that we should get back to the real work — of making America great again.

Love him or hate him — Donald Trump is a master at manipulating the media. CNN set a trap for him and instead of stepping in it he set them up to provide wall-to-wall coverage of a press event they wouldn’t have even reported on much less carried live. He forced CNN to broadcast the personal stories of American military heroes in exchange for a simple statement of fact — Obama was born in the United States.

More than an hour after the statement from Trump CNN is still reporting on the issue. They are suggesting that the controversy may not be over because Trump questioned Obama’s citizenship earlier this year — They’re not going to let it go.

Oh and the funny thing? When the Clinton campaign or their surrogates floated the theory that Obama was born in Kenya and not Hawaii I was confused. I was even more confused when Clinton donor, supporter, and friend, Donald Trump, demanded to see President Obama’s birth certificate. Regardless of the geographic location of Obama’s place of birth his mother was a United States citizen and as a result he is a natural born citizen. For example, Ted Cruz was born to an American mother in Canada and as a result he was eligible to run and serve as president. So why are we talking about this?

The real reason we’re talking about it is because the media is desperate to derail Donald Trump’s campaign. They know Trump has a hard time admitting his mistakes and a result they can keep this fake controversy in the headlines. The funny part of this particular attack on Trump is that it originated from Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign against Obama — either her campaign or their surrogates. Each time the media brings up the matter they go through a tortuous explanation of how the leaked emails from the campaign that discuss the matter aren’t specific enough. They suggest that the real source were simply “very big Clinton supporters” and not actually associated with the campaign. When the issue originally hit the news and everyone assumed it originated from the Clinton campaign the media didn’t call the attack “bigoted” but when it is associated with Trump it became “bigoted”.

At the end of the day the attack — charge — whatever was stupid. Obama was eligible regardless…
