There are a lot of inspiring stories in the fight against cancer. Rob Bilott’s incredible twenty-year battle against DuPont didn’t just make for a great book, but a powerful film. On April 7, we’re bringing both the author and that story to Traverse City.

Thanks to a ton of hard work from Less Cancer founder Bill Couzens, Keen Technical Solution’s Tim Pulliam, and the gracious folks at the State Theater, Traverse City will have a screening of the award-winning film, “Dark Waters” at 6:30 on April 7. Based on Rob’s book, Exposure, Mark Ruffalo fills Rob’s shoes to tell the tale of an epic battle for clean water and justice. The film already made one stop in town, but this spring’s screening is free, with donations accepted. You’ll also be able to meet Rob and grab a copy of the book!

If anything, the movie will help us all remember where this fight started and help to frame our current battles for clean water, PFAS clean-up and regulation, and protecting freshwater everywhere in Michigan. We are a state that thrives and values our rivers, lakes, and streams. We understand just how vital keeping our water safe is to our families and to future generations.

The screening just so happens to fall exactly two months before our 2020 Less Cancer Bike Ride, and you’re in luck, because you’ll be able to register for the ride at the State Theater before or after the film. Get fired up for the cause and help us pedal the path to prevention by joining us on Sunday, June 7 for a 15, 40, or 64-mile ride in Leelanau County. Proceeds from the ride are the biggest fundraiser of the year for Less Cancer and its mission of spreading and improving cancer prevention in over forty countries around the world.

Check out the film’s trailer, and take a second to learn more about the cause at LessCancer.org.
