During a time many are staying at home more, our health remains an important priority. Eating well gives our body the nutrition it needs to boost immunity to prevent and fight off viruses and other diseases like cancer. Exercise also boosts our immunity to prevent disease and even may help prevent extreme complications or death of COVID19 and other diseases. Whether we are concerned about COVID19, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, or many other diseases, doing what we can to support or strengthen our health is an important aspect of living well.

One of my goals this year is to bike 1,000 miles, and I have been tracking my mileage. I had biked some before with a mix of swimming and working out with other gym equipment, and last year, I participated in Less Cancer’s bike ride virtually. I was planning to, and had even registered already, ride again this year. However to protect everyone’s health, the ride has moved to all virtual riding. Join me as a fellow rider on June 6-7 to bike 15, 25, 50, etc. miles or donate to my Virtual Ride. Event link and information:

To encourage people to move at home regularly, Less Cancer has launched the Stay at Home 10 #stayathome10, and I immediately signed up to keep me accountable and get me ready for the longer ride on June 6–7. What an easy, fun, and free way to join a movement of people committing to walk, run, or ride (or other way of moving) 10 miles per week. There are individuals in 5 states of the US, plus a participant in the Philippines so far, and YOU can be next. Join us in the challenge from home or a park or wherever you are allowed to move!

Less Cancer is also bringing great programming to the public now — interviews with Rob Billot, JD on his book Exposure and the film based on this work Dark Waters; Dr. Jan Carney, a public health leader in Vermont; and Holli Thompson, CHHC, CNHP on nutrition. The web-based course for prevention and risk reduction (offers continuing education credits for physicians and nurses) launched on Coursera this week.

You can help Less Cancer continue bringing great programming and educational tools to people by signing up for the big ride on June 6–7 or with a donation at the Stay at Home 10 link above or lesscancer.org.

Thanks to Less Cancer for inspiring and engaging us in healthy habits during this time!
