Are You Being Treated Poorly? Or Do You Just Think You Are?

My teacher, Michael Neill tells a story of teaching a group of students about the principle of Thought. About the inside-out nature of our experiences and the absolute essential nature of experience to come from our ability to think. A student stood up to ask him a question.

“So, are you telling me that if someone is kicking me in the shins, that it is just my thinking”? “Well”, says Michael, “of course, I could not experience the feeling of being kicked in the shins without my ability to think. That said, if someone was kicking me in the shins, I would step out of the way. That just makes sense”.

So, if your boss or your spouse or your best friend or your worst enemy is kicking you in the metaphorical shins, who do you blame? Them or you? And does it really matter?

I say see the truth and then make the decision that is best for you.
