Do We Really Live In The Feeling Of Our Thinking?
The most profound knowledge I’ve gained from coming across the three principles is that we only live in the feeling of our thinking. I fully believe and have seen this truth for myself.
I want to share a few stories that show how true this is and how powerful it is as well.
When I was a police officer, I remember when I would get dispatched to a call that “sounded” intense. I would hear the dispatchers giving me the call and the tone of their voice, and I’d have the call notes on my squad computer so I knew what I was going to.
So before getting to the call, I had all of this information from dispatch and I already created in my mind what I thought the call was going to be like. I would start planning it out in my head such as what route to take, where to park, how to approach, I’d quickly lookup prior histories, and plan in my head what I’m going to say and do after I arrive. All of this happens within seconds upon getting the call.
Many times, I would start to feel the adrenaline rush immediately, or I would start to feel a bit anxious about all the unknowns of what I was going to. I would start to feel immediately all of these intense feelings because of the thinking I had. The funny thing about it all is that so many times, the call was never near as bad or intense as it sounded…
