Consider a fighter jet crashed deep inside enemy territory. The only way to escape from the hostile environment is to walk or take road transportation.

After World War I, aircraft use as offensive equipment became a norm. With many aces created on both sides, becoming a fighter pilot became a symbol of pride. The job involved a considerable risk with all its pride.

The mortality rate of fighter pilots was higher than in other military divisions. The pilots need to operate deep inside enemy lines, and if they crash in enemy territory, they either need to surrender or force their way out.
