Hundreds of years before Jack the Ripper, Ted Bundy, or H.H. Holmes, there was Prince Liu Pengli of ancient China.

The crown prince of the Han Dynasty was infamous for killing people indiscriminately — be it, man, woman, or child. His legacy proves that that murdering for pleasure was by no means a modern occurrence.

Dastardly Deeds

Liu Pengli was royalty over the Jidong province around the second century BCE, together with his five brothers.

Due to different political conflicts, his father was banished, giving Liu Pengli the brothers greater power over the area. Historians from this period report that Liu Pengli then revealed his wicked and cruel nature.

After gaining power, Liu formed a gang composed of slaves and fugitives from the law. The group would periodically run amok at night and terrorize whoever they saw fit. The prince murdered his constituents and stole their possessions for pure sport.

The prince’s reign of terror lasted for two whole decades, leaving a trail of around 100 bodies in its wake.

News of these senseless deaths spread across Jidong, paralyzing people with fear…
