Can MAGA Survive without Trump?

Republicans and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement have a problem. Only one MAGA candidate, Donald J. Trump Senior (R-Florida) attracts enough votes to win.

For example, in North Carolina, Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein was easily beating MAGA Republican Mark Robinson by large margins. For example, the Emerson College poll had Stein leading by 52% to 41% on 2 November 2024. The 25 October to 2 November 2024 New York Times/Siena College poll had Stein leading by 18%.

In contrast, Emerson College had Trump beating Vice President Kamala Harris (D-California) by a 49% to 48% margin on 4 November 2024. Meanwhile, the New York Times Siena College Poll had Harris defeating Trump by a 48% to 46% margin.

Obviously, Robinson is a problematic candidate. Media reports claim Robinson calls himself a “black Nazi” and praises slavery. However, Robinson is no more problematic than Trump. Trump is a convicted felon whom many Americans view as a racist. Furthermore, there are public sexual assault allegations against Trump.
