Dear Americans: Your President Managed to Piss Off and Unite the Entire Canada
A boycott is brewing, and we’re not backing down.
Moments ago, I was at the grocery store deciding whether to buy American spinach. The store near my home doesn’t have a big selection, and the only greens they sell are American-grown and packaged.
I ended up deciding against the spinach, and I’m hardly the only one. At least a third of the people I saw at the store have been inspecting labels and packaging, likely deciding whether they want to buy the products in front of them. A month ago, no one was doing that. Why? Because people weren’t planning on boycotting American products.
Even though President re-elect Donald J. Trump Senior (R-Florida) put the looming tariffs towards Mexico and Canada on hold, the damage has been done. For weeks, Canadians have been discussing a boycott of American goods. Make no mistake: it’s not just a boycott of American products, but support towards Canadian-made ones.
Canadians are pissed. We are extremely angry, and we are not sorry for that. I don’t recall ever seeing Canadians’ patriotism and pride on the rise like this. You know you really pissed us off when Quebec feels patriotic — they constantly try to break up with us, and they almost did in 1995.
