A brief description of the cultural shifts in the modern world
Culture is the foundation of any society. Without burly culture, any society cannot sustain nor lead towards evaluation and growth.
Culture represents the society and attributes of people. It creates the perspective of how to see the world. All around the world, there are almost 3,814 different cultures. Each culture has its language, tradition, customs, art, and lifestyles.
It varies according to the choice of people, their preferences, religion, education, fashion, weather, and area. Culture has a focal role in the upbringing of children. Social norms are carried out with the assistance of culture.
In the last 100 years, the world has rigorously changed. The way people think, their lifestyle, preferences, everything has been modified. It is a major change throughout the history of the world.
Hence, culture has been also changed. Now, we are living in the modern world in the world of technology and choice. Where everything varies according to the demand and want.
Advancement of culture
Cultural advancements in the modern world are the outcome of decades. Altering social norms, traditions, values, ideology, and attributes are time taking process.
During the last century, nations like Pakistan and Israel emerged in the name of culture (religion, traditions, and values). The main Ideology behind Pakistan and Israel was their different cultures. The number of North American states raised based on culture (colonialism).
A century ago the majority of people used to live in the villages leading a simple life with simple culture, but then, since last 20 years, they started moving towards the cities as a result population increased. More educated people came into being developing new ideas and cultures.
Diffusion of culture
Cultural changes have reformed societies. Traditions have been replaced.
There are numerous reasons behind the culture changes in the modern world like diffusion of a culture (adapting another culture) when people travel from one country to another for trade they brought their culture also which diffuse the local culture, for example, Brittan’s brought their culture in the Subcontinent.
Technology and culture
Another major reason is the advancement in technology. Where social media had become the fastest mode of communication, there is no need of writing letters and wait for weeks when you can use email.
The entertainment industry had been modified and reached the peak theaters, cinemas and the Olympics have been introduced because of the tech innovation.
Everything is one touch away. However, social media had also created a fake life, it had also developed aloof with the people of the modern world which was quite rare in ancient times.
The evolution of technology has also affected the mode of traveling now no one uses horses while in the past horses were the basic need. Hence technology has changed the culture thoroughly whether it comes to communication, traveling, or entertainment.
Change is Fashion, Entertainment and Art
There has been appraised change in art and fashion also. In past cultural art portrayed society, culture stereotypes, revolution, and history, but in modern era artist generally represents their thoughts their own stories.
Same goes for dressing and fashion in past decades covering the whole body was a sign of respect and wealth especially in countries like China and Japan. Wearing revealing clothes was strictly prohibited and was considered a disgrace. Now they are accepted in the name of fashion.
Role of religion in culture
Religion played an appreciable role in past cultures. People used to think killing in the name of religion should be appreciated.
Several wars were based on religious differences but when it comes to the modern world religion has become a secondary thing. People from different religions have shown acceptability for each other and they have started moving together to lead a successful and prosperous life.
Change in gender relations
The modern culture had affected gender relations decade ago women were pondered as a housewife and men have to earn for the living.
Gender discrimination and racism were part of society. While in modern culture men and women are treated equally they are both playing an equal role in the development of society.
Feminism and women’s rights have encouraged and empowered respectively. Racism has been forbidden in the modern world where people gather for George Floyd to violate racism.
CONCLUSION
However, every country differs from each other having distinct culture. There is a gap between every culture that cannot be fulfilled.
There are few similarities in Muslim cultures like Iran and Iraq, Malaysia and Pakistan on the other hand they thoroughly differ from Christian cultures. Likewise, America and Brittan have somehow the same culture.
In the postmodern world, one of the most frequently followed cultures is the European Culture their language had been considered as the international language. Their lifestyles have been idealized their sense of fashion is blindly followed.
Art has been also influenced by European artists, their writing skills and education system had been adopted worldwide. Moreover, modern architecture had a spark of European culture.
Culture changes are the part of the society it is expected within a few years there will be more new advancements and development and it will enhance the modern world in economic growth and emerge the new social taboos.
