Some recent news from Ukraine shows how technology is changing war and the world before our eyes.

Frighteningly, the Ukrainian military claims to have a drone that can locate and destroy targets without human guidance. On 20 March 2024, drone fundraiser Serhii Sternenko posted a video of a drone hitting and destroying a Russian tank on X.

Sternenko claims the drone lacks human control. Instead, an artificial intelligence (AI) used machine learning to identify the target. Disturbingly, Sternenko is collecting funds to build 1,000 such drones which Forbes calls real life Terminators. Thus, the old sci-fi nightmare of killer robots is reality.

Such drones could change warfare by overcoming the most effective anti-drone defense. That defense is signal jamming, which prevents a human operator from guiding the drone.

Drones devastating Russian Oil Infrastructure

Drones could inflict a massive defeat on Russia. Reuters claims drone attacks cut Russian oil production by 7% over the past two months.

Gunvor Group CEO Torbjörn Törnqvist estimates Ukrainian drone attacks have reduced Russian exports by 200,000 barrels. In contrast, JPMorgan Chase & Co estimates drone strikes have cut Russian oil refining by 900,000 barrels a day, Business Insider reports.
