Originating from Jalisco (a state in Mexico), the sisters Carmen, Delfina, María de Jesus, and Luisa Gonzales Valenzuela were the product of a dysfunctional family. Their mother Bernardina, was a selfless catholic devotee, who religiously followed the rules of the church. She installed in them a mentality of fear and cult-like worship to the religion. On the other hand, their father Isidro, was an alcoholic and sexist, who used his power as a sheriff to abuse them¹.

The Beginning of a Prostitution Business¹

It all started when Isidro (their father) caught Carmen, the oldest sister, having an affair with a much older man. Enraged by her behavior, he sent her away and locked her in a cell (in the town’s jail). This same day, Isidro was sent to look for a rebellious law braking man, who he ended up killing. For this, Isidro ran away, hiding in small towns near his city. He had forgotten about his daughter and left her locked for 14 months. She was freed by an old man, and in return for the favor, she ended up marrying him.
