The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, usually known as DPRK, is widely considered one of the most autocratic countries on the face of the earth. In 2021, North Korea’s leadership, governed by the authoritarian Kim Jong Un, responded to international problems and the COVID-19 outbreak by increasing the amount of persecution and further isolating the country from the rest of the world.

They kept the populace in terrifying obedience by threatening them with execution, incarceration, enforced disappearances, and forced backbreaking labor in detention and prison camps. This helped them maintain the feared subservience of the population.
