Not All Cultures Are Equal

Cosmopolitan westerners tend to think of cultural diversity as inherently positive. The travel industry does the same, naively pitching a world of welcoming cultural variety. Add to this mix political correctness that views criticizing non-western cultures as racist and what do you get?

Answer: omertà about an uncomfortable elephant in the room question that many think to, but few dare, ask: which cultures are better — or worse — at fostering human flourishing? And can we logically critique societies and cultures whose authoritarian and/or theocratic features embedded by their histories create waves of migration that send their peoples westward?

To vaccinate readers against the global woke mind virus that brands all criticism of non-western cultures and religions as racist, let’s separate what’s racist from stating what’s merely factual:

Saying all Muslims hate democracy is racism; saying all Muslim countries are not democratic is a fact.

Saying no Muslim can handle free speech is racism; Saying you can’t criticize the government or God in Muslim society is a fact.

Saying that all Muslim men treat women badly is racism; saying women don’t enjoy the same rights as men in Muslim
