What Truths Do We Hold to Be Self-Evident?
Since cancer brought my attention to the fact that any holiday I celebrate may be my last, I’ve been reveling — some would say wallowing — -in the opportunity to salute the flags I have followed in the fairy tale American story my life has been. On July 4, 2019, I choose to display my love affair with liberal democracy at a time when it faces an existential threat.
