In 1968, James Earl Ray was captured at London Airport Heathrow by the police for his alleged assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Who Was Martin Luther King?

King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929, to a preacher who was originally from the state of Georgia. The family decided to name themselves after Martin Luther, a reformer in the Catholic Church, after visiting Germany in the 1930s.

King was married in 1953 and has been a preacher ever since. He became well-known in 1955. On December 1, 1955, a young black woman named Rosa Parks chose to stay seated on a bus in Alabama rather than relinquish her seat to a white passenger, as was required by law.

The king planned the protest and the large-scale boycott of public transit. Only after over four hundred days of campaigning did the new legislation take effect.

On January 31, 1957, Martin Luther King Jr. became the newly established Southern Christian Leadership Conference civil rights group president.

He traveled a lot, including India and Pakistan. He brought attention to racial discrimination everywhere, just as Indian activist Mahatma Gandhi…
