“There are no disasters,” said Boris Johnson. “Only opportunities. And, indeed, opportunities for fresh disasters.”

The former British Prime Minister was correct. There is always an opportunity for the United Kingdom to be embarrassed on the world stage. Everyone thinks of Brexit as a famous example of the UK doing something ridiculous. But very few people people know about the campaign to give British citizenship to Jesus Christ.

Let me explain more…

A petition was considered (and thankfully rejected) by the British government. Its aim was to “give Honorary British citizenship to Jesus Christ to recognize the great contribution of Jesus Christ and Christianity in shaping the United Kingdom.”

Here are four other examples of parliamentary petitions rejected by the UK government:

Ban Donald Trump From The United Kingdom

This petition got over 580,000 signatures from British residents. Since petitions with over 100k signatures are eligible for debate in Parliament, MPs discussed banning former president Donald J. Trump Sr from the UK.
