Do you know who Krampus is? He is half-man, half-goat who comes around every year.

The fictitious Krampus is meant to beat children into being nice and not naughty.

It is not possible to hear holiday songs without singing the praises of Krampus. He is not someone who one may wish to see in dreams — dark hair and fangs, black horns with a long tongue.

This anti- St. Nicholas arrives with a chain that he whips about along with a bundle of sticks to punish naughty children. And then he carries them down to the underworld.

In Catholicism, Saint Nicholas is like a saint for children. Many European cultures welcomed the generous man as a figure of benevolence, but they also feared his terrifying replicas who punished the evil or bad.

In various beliefs from various communities, like Germany and Austria, people do actually are afraid of the mighty Krampus.
