It is widely believed that Mikhail Gorbachev is responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall as well as the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Gorbachev is an iconic character in the annals of history.

The former leader of the Soviet Union, who played a crucial role in ending the Cold War and mending ties between the United States and the Soviet Union, passed away in the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow on Tuesday, August 30. He was 91.

The Soviet Union gave the appearance of being an unmovable powerhouse that was embroiled in a continual struggle with the United States of America before the real entry of Gorbachev onto the political scene in 1985. All of that, however, was upended by him, and he was responsible for reshaping the 20th century’s trajectory via an extraordinary collection of changes.

1. Humble Beginnings
