The female Japanese-trained performing artist and entertainers in traditional Japanese performing arts and styles such as music, dance, and singing were known as Geisha.

Geisha were proficient conversationalists and hosts. Geisha girls in distinct appearances such as wearing long, trailing kimonos, traditional hairstyles, and oshiroi(white powder) makeup are easily recognized.

Geisha entertain wealthy clients and seldom give stage performances too.

There are even training centers, where this art is still taught.

In the early stages of Japanese history, serving or earning girls mostly wandered in order to support their families because of the war.

Some of them used to offer sex services for money, while others entertained wealthy clients by performing some arts.

During the Heian period, men were constrained to be loyal to their wives, and even wives had to be modest mothers who are capable of managing all the affairs of the house.
