Before social media came into our lives, there weren't many ways to help you gain fame. However, if there was any way to help you become famous for sure, it was to die under mysterious circumstances on an eerie ship in the middle of the ocean.

This is how people on the SS Ourang Medan became famous, and their stories constantly remained in circulation for decades to come.

The one where the ship ended

In the late 1940s, a Dutch freighter called the Ourang Medan transmitted a distress signal to nearby ships, such as the American Silver Star, in the Straits of Malacca. The distress message indicated that all officers, including the captain, were dead, with their bodies found in the chartroom and on the bridge.

The news ended with a chilling declaration of impending death.

The ship was eerily quiet when the Silver Star reached the Ourang Medan, lacking any signs of activity or calls for help. Upon boarding, the search party discovered the lifeless bodies of the crew, their faces frozen in fear, mouths open in eternal screams, and eyes wide open. Even the ship’s dog met a similar fate, caught in a snarl at the moment of death.
