The news of the notorious murder of Sylvia Likens spread like a plague in Indianapolis in 1965. The poor teenager died a brutal death from constant torture inflicted upon her by her caretaker. Initially, Gertrude Baniszewski, the caretaker of Sylvia Likens, came across as a kind person who lived in the neighbourhood of the Likens family.

However, Gertrude soon showed her true colours when Sylvia’s parents went back to their hometown, leaving Sylvia and Jenny under the supervision of Gertrude. Gertrude was an unforgiving woman as she frequently beat Sylvia over petty things. No Sooner, Gertrude found herself burning, tormenting, and cutting the innocent teenager. Sylvia’s malnourished and fragile body could not bear Gertrude’s beatings anymore as she silently passed away in October of 1965. Gertrude welcomed trouble by calling the police and reporting Sylvia’s made-up abuse case, only to find herself apprehended behind bars.
