In May 2019, controversy sparked over the tragic events that happened at Lake Lanier. There have been multiple reports on people drowning, like 30-year old Reginald Whitehead, who went underwater after falling off his jet ski. He never saw the surface again. Or 17-year-old Dontay Lithonia, who almost drowned in the lake.

The Origin of Lake Lanier

Lake Lanier is a beautiful lake in Northern Georgia and is very popular among local people who want to go on a holiday, even after several drownings have been reported.

Before this was a lake there were several small towns beneath the lake that were mostly managed by farmers. The only known town from back then is Oscarville, the other ones weren’t remembered through history.

The communities living there were thriving and bruising until the government decided to create a facility for electricity, food, and other resources for the people living near Atlanta.

The Georgian government offered the farmers money for their farms and lands — but as these farms had been in their families for generations, the farmers were put in a difficult position.
