The spring of 1803 saw Robert R. Livingstone and James Monroe, two American politicians, fly all the way to Paris, France to close the ‘Louisiana Purchase,’ — which saw the imperial rights to a huge chunk of mid-western North American land being bought from the French Empire for a whopping 15 million USD!

What’s noteworthy here is that the French government did not own the land dictator Napoleon Bonaparte had just sold the rights to. Monroe and Livingston only made the deal for non-interference in it from here on out.

However, they did not consider the thousands of different socio-ethnic groups already living on this land and calling it their home, they only considered the Europeans, who came to North America some thousands of years after the original Americans had settled there.

The natives weren’t completely overlooked, though. George Washington once said that the US government would deal with the Indians’ matters while considering the “great principles of justice and humanity.”

The Government used dirty tactics
