Sister Virginia Maria was a 17th-century Italian nun who’d be controversial even today. She broke her vow of chastity and gave birth to two children. When another nun threatened to reveal her affair, Maria’s boyfriend murdered her. And Maria just kept quiet and made others be quiet as well.

It didn’t end up well.

From a Rich Heiress to a Devout Nun

The Nun of Monza was born in 1575 as Marianna de Leyva y Marino. Her mother Virginia died before Marianna’s first birthday, so the girl was raised by her aunts until she was 13.
