The rate of domestic violence in the United States, continues to rise, with over 10 million men and women suffering from it, every year. Yet, the perpetrators of such violence continue to elude justice. In many cases, there is very little accountability due to a broken justice system.

Many argue that the lack of justice may be making the nationwide epidemic of domestic violence worse. One victim of such violence was Melissa Platt, a wonderful young woman, who lost her life to horrifying domestic abuse.

The Early Life of Melissa Platt

Melissa was born in Houston, Texas. Alongside her two sisters, Melissa led a happy and relatively peaceful childhood. Melissa’s parents, recognizing the closeness between their daughters, raised them akin to how one would raise triplets.

The three girls were extremely close, and according to her family, Melissa was an adventurous and joyful person, during her childhood. Later in her life, Melissa worked at Mcdonald’s and managed the birthday parties for children, at a branch in Baytown, Texas.
