Charles Darwin was a biologist who developed the idea of evolution by natural selection. As the most prominent proponent of this idea, Darwin has a unique place in history. While he led a very peaceful and studious life, his writings were and continue to be contentious.

As a well-educated young man, Darwin set off on a Royal Navy ship on an incredible voyage of discovery. Strange animals and plants he encountered in isolated locations prompted him to ponder the origins of life.

When Darwin released his magnum opus, “On the Origin of Species,” he shocked the scientific world to its core. The impact of Darwin on current science cannot be overstated, but there were certain things he got wrong!

1. The Earth’s Age

During the nineteenth century, the Bible (rather than the fossil record) was commonly regarded as the absolute authority on the age of the Earth. It claimed that the Earth was just roughly 6,000 years old. However, most scientists at the time agreed that the Earth was unquestionably older.
