Three Women Who (Probably) Murdered Their Husbands
… and got away with it
When it comes to the history of crime, there’s a massive imbalance between the sexes, for the vast majority of criminals are men, not women.
But there are also some instances where women have wriggled away from punishment despite there being plenty of evidence against them.
And in the case of these three women, they all managed to avoid being punished for the worst crime of all: murder.
1. Florence Bravo
Florence Campbell was born in Australia in 1845. As a child, she moved to England with the rest of her family, and in 1875, she married a man called Charles Bravo.
Having inherited a large fortune from her previous marriage, Florence was a wealthy lady who enjoyed her independence. Charles — who had a lot of debt — wanted to control the money and demanded Florence be subservient to him. But she refused to give away her wealth, protected by the Married Women’s Property Act (1870).
Then, on the 18th of April 1876, Charles started to feel unwell. His condition worsened, and a host of doctors…
