It was the D-Day landing on the beaches of Normandy in World War II. As troops attacked the German defenses, a few pigeons flew across the battlefield towards Britain.

The pigeons formed a vital communication link across the English Channel, which aided the invasion.

In 1940 almost the entire continent of Europe was either neutral or under the control of Germany. Hitler’s next target was Britain.

As the Royal Navy guarded the channel, it was nearly impossible for the German troops to launch an amphibious attack on Britain. The Luftwaffe dropped waves of bombs over Britain, but it didn’t affect the morale of the British citizens.
