What is fiction? It is something that describes imaginary events and people. We, as humans are gifted with one extraordinary ability — an ability to imagine. Actually, imagination is a seed of a giant Tree. It throws us a question, “What if this is like this?”

This “What — if” snatches us out of the “Structured World” we’re in, It all takes us to the different universe — The World which we imagine. And that gives birth to fiction! This way, we engender something terrific, our own world, where we imagine the things to get real.

Creative imagination incepts fiction. The real fun of savoring fiction comes when it creates a world which can be realized. Where we can realize what one has imagined! There’re some great artists, writers with this exceptional ability to link the imagination with realization;

I watched one such beautiful creation — The Special Episode of Sherlock, The Abominable Bride. This is an exceptionally well -fabricated fiction where the modernized Sherlock travels back to the past to solve an unsolved murder mystery. This is made by Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss which was fathomed and presented by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Andrew Scott.

The Character of Sherlock Holmes is created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This immortal fantasizing character has been itched to the memory lane of the Human Race. Sherlock has been presented to us many times, in different timeframes, by different people. Though I loved and admire the one which is played by Benedict. The Character is so strongly imagined that it gives us a sense of Realization. We actually think, is it really possible to have a person like Sherlock in this mortal world?

I am literally amazed by the way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has realized Holmes. How he would have realized the character so beautifully? The answer is very intriguing. It lies in the Real Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He actually was a Physician by profession. He studied his medicine at The University of Edinburgh. There, He was really allured by the personality of one of his Professors, Joseph Bell. It is believed that the character of Sherlock is partially shadowed from Bell. In one of his letters to Bell, Doyle writes, “It is most certainly to you that I owe Sherlock Holmes … round the center of deduction and inference and observation which I have heard you inculcate, I have tried to build up a man.”

The same lies with the Character of Dr. John Watson. The character seems to be inspired by Doyle himself! Here are some facts:

John Watson is also a doctor, (M.D. ) just like Doyle. In his early stages of Profession, Doyle was ship’s surgeon on SS Mayumba during a voyage to the West African coast. Similarly for Watson, during his early stages he was an assistant surgeon in the British Army and had traveled to India. He was wounded in the Anglo-Afghan war and returned to London where he met Sherlock. And similarly, Doyle started his actual work on Holmes after returning from SS Mayumba. Also, as stated in fiction, Dr. Watson wrote about Sherlock’s adventurous cases and published them. This was also done by Doyle in Real Life!

Fiction breathes life when imagination is realized through entangled Real Life. It takes us to the different parallel Universe and the Art Shines!
