“Now look fellas, let’s be reasonable, huh? This is not the time or the place to perform some sort of half ass autopsy on a fish. And I am not going to stand here and see that thing cut open, and see that little Kintner boy spill out all over the dock!” — Mayor Vaughn, Jaws

After a brief hiatus, my most recommended podcast is back.

For the uninitiated, The Rewatchables podcast on The Ringer Podcast Network (from Bill Simmons and friends) breaks down only the best, most fun and rewatchable movies that everyone has seen 1,000 times.

I am not typically a jealous person but I am legitimately jealous of everyone involved in the selection of movies for this pod.

The podcasts were released sporadically over the last year or so but they have announced a new 20 episode “season” released weekly that started May 24. So far, every episode has been pure 🔥.

All questionable movie selections have been tossed out and they are throwing 100mph every single week.

Each episode breaks down the movie with all the love and adoration you would expect plus a few dissenting, hipster, hot-takes.

The rotating cast of hosts discuss categories for best quote, most rewatchable scene, what aged the best/worst, half assed internet research and who won the movie, along with a handful of other convoluted categories.

The first batch of episodes were generally awesome movies with only a few questionable choices [cough Miami Vice cough]. But since they have come back for the most recent season, they have rolled out the following winning streak 🙌

*Jaws and Jurassic Park are Top 5 All-Time Movies [for me] joining Goodfellas, Back to the Future and the recently added Father of the Bride. Apologies to Pitch Perfect for getting bumped out of my top 5 after rewatching Father of the Bride a few weeks ago.

I promise, this isn’t just me. It was on Vulture’s best podcasts of 2018 (so far). They had the following to say:

The Rewatchables (The Ringer)

Few things are more pleasurable than a group of smart, funny, and deeply nostalgic people going long on a piece of culture they really love. For The Rewatchables, the piece of culture is the movies that you can watch over and over and over again: Point Break, The Big Lebowski, You’ve Got Mail. Yes, great podcasts that go deep on beloved films are a dime a dozen — think The Canon, The Next Picture Show, How Did This Get Made (sorta) — but The Rewatchables pops off the Apple Podcast charts due to the sheer charisma and chemistry of its rotating cast of panelists.

In world that only delivers horrifying news stories, gloom, doom and cynicism, take an hour a week and retreat into the comfort of an old favorite movie.

The rest of the world’s nonsense will be waiting for you when you’re done.
