MS Excel Tip — EASILY Locate Your Startup and Add-Ins Folders!
This has always been a pain — until now!
Do you use custom workbook templates or custom Add-ins? You need to locate your Startup Folder and your Add-ins folder!
Anyone who works with custom templates or add-ins understands how painful this process typically is. As Dave Bruns points out in this post on Exceljet.net …
“ Note: biggest challenge with this tip is figuring out the right location for the template file. This can be maddeningly complex, depending on which platform and version of Excel you use.”
Fortunately, Dave provides a simple solution for locating your Startup Folder path, which I have recapped below. Additionally, a quick Google search helped me locate the similar syntax for my Excel custom add-ins folder!
Here’s How You Do It
Steps to Locate Your Startup Path Folder
- Open an Excel workbook.
- Use the “ALT + F11” keyboard shortcut to open Excel’s VBA Editor.
- Next, CTRL + G to open the “Immediate” window at the bottom of the VB Editor.
- Enter “? application.StartupPath” in the window and hit Enter.
- Copy the path to the address bar in Windows Explorer to open the folder location.
Locate Your Custom Addins Path Folder
Exactly the same as above, but use the following syntax:
- Enter “? Application.UserLibraryPath” in the window and hit Enter.
- Copy the path to the address bar in Windows Explorer to open the Add-Ins folder location.
Locating the custom template files and add-ins folder locations is no longer a problem!
I’m a happy guy!
