Melissa and Benjamin Upton have a family recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation in their family.

ChilaQuile is the family recipe that has stayed with Ben throughout his childhood, teen years and adult life.

“This recipe is one of his favorites because it includes a bunch of different but simple ingredients into one main dish and it’s really simple so he enjoys that too” Melissa said talking about her son’s love for the meal.

Ben has brought this recipe all the way from Texas to Macon where he now lives. This meal is something he enjoys sharing among friends and loved ones in is new home.

“The dish can be made in a variety of ways and can be altered to your taste,” Ben said. “ It’s made of eggs, cheese, your choice of meats, tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream, mixed all together in a large skillet.”

Family recipes are a great way to bring a diverse group of people from all over together for a meal. These recipes are full of culture, ethnicities, and hidden personal meanings. It is a way for communities to bring individual, unique foods from different backgrounds to allow others to see personal history, start conversations, and make memories.
