Born and raised in Macon, Scott Worthen has watched several of his friends and family members fall victim to the city’s violence over the years.

The NuWay Weiner’s employee said he has had enough and if he could be the Macon Mayor for the day he would work toward lessening crime in the city.

“I guess everyone is like me, tired of it, all the violence going on” Worthen said.

Worthen said the only way to begin to improve the crime rate is to start at the schools. He wants to begin after school programs and programs at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Macon that promote peace and denounce violence at a young age.

“We also probably would need a gym or something like that too,” he said.

For Worthen, community engagement is the only way to lead kids in the right direction so they stay out of crime as adults.
